I am so glad that Sawyer has the patience of a Saint! Kent gave him a dried apricot last night and Sophie the little stinker pulled the whole thing out of his mouth. Thankfully Sawyer has started sticking up for himself and took it right back. She probably would have gotten it back from him though if Kent hadn’t have gotten her her own apricot. The funny thing is we did think she even liked apricots. On Sunday we clipped their nails and afterword we gave them apricot as a treat. We knew Sawyer liked them but we had never offered any to Sophie. I was kind of surprised when she didn’t seem to have any interest in the treat. So either she didn’t want it because she didn’t want anything to do with us because we just clipped her nails or she just wanted it because Sawyer was eating it. Well at least I can add apricot to her like list.
The other day I tried to give them a few new things to eat which ended up being pretty much a no on all of it. I bought a couple of lettuces, romaine and something else that I can’t remember the name of, and I thought I would share some of my fresh pineapple with them too. The lettuces got a so-so reception, the highlight being Sawyer stepping on the romaine to get to the parsley, the pineapple however was a complete bomb. I’ve tried giving Sawyer pineapple before and he just licked it and turned away, this time however he seemed to have an aversion to it worse than Sophie has to banana. Not once but twice he came up to me and sniffed it and the quickly ran under the cage. The second time was after I had fed the two a few raisins and as soon as I put the pineapple under his nose he ran away, poor thing. It’s been kind of discouraging though, trying to get them to like new things. Regardless of whether I put one new thing on the plate or two or three they always leave the new stuff, eat the parsley and carrots and leave whatever else is left. Oh well, there’s nothing to do but keep trying.
