The Food Dance

It's been a while but I thought it was time I started posting little things about Sawyer and Sophie again.

I took this video last night while Kent was feeding Sawyer and Sophie and they were going crazy. It's really my first video so please forgive the zooming and all. Oh and thanks to Kent's Mom and Dad for the wedding gift that made this possible.

Cardboard...the bunny tamer

People who have never owned or been around a pet bunny always think they are so cute but in all honesty they can be little monsters sometimes. Luckily we’ve weaned Sawyer and now Sophie for the most part from chewing on everything. I’ve bought all kinds of toys for them to play with but of all things their favorite by far is a cardboard box with toilet paper tubes being a close second. I find myself trying to scope out boxes at work to nick for the little boogers. Kent threw away their box on Sunday because they had made a hole in the bottom and had literally stripped the rest down to the outside paper. I put out a new one and I normally cut holes in the boxes and but his time I just turned it on its side and in just a few days they have already made a mess of it. Last night they were making such a ruckus you could hear it over the TV and of course that is the first place they headed after I let them out this morning. Gladly the cardboard is a great way to deal with bunny curiosity, aggression, O.C.D. or whatever it is. I’m going to have to break down and replace the box that we have their tunnel connected to too. We added it to keep the tunnel stable because every time Sophie ran through it, it would roll around on her. We have turned that box on all four sides and I noticed last night that even with the box on the end the tunnel as gotten wobbly, it no wonder if you look at how much of the box is left. The only thing really holding the whole thing together is the little thin piece of paper on the outside of the box. I’m not complaining though, I can get cardboard for free and that keeps them out of trouble.

Bunny Kisses!

The past couple nights I have been laying in the floor reading a paperback. One to be closer to the bunnies and two I was tired of sitting up to read. Sunday night they both came up to me and tried to take a nibble of my book. Sawyer learns quickly and after I told him no he didn't try it again either Sunday or last night, Sophie on the other hand has to be told no many times before she will ever give up. So last night I was in the floor with my favorite throw that I knitted thrown over me reading and Sophie tried to take a taste of my book again. I didn’t move quick enough so she got a nibble. When I started telling her she should eat other people’s books while they are reading them she started sniffing my face and actually gave me a little kiss on the nose. Sweet little thing, I told her thank you and she ran off to play with Sawyer. She may be a little terror sometimes but deep down she’s as sweet as Sawyer.

Raisins?

Last night Kent sat down on the couch with a bag of chips and got the bunnies all excited. They heard the bag rattling and thought “Raisins!” Their lifted their heads, got this excited look in their eyes and looked around waiting to see who was going to give them a treat. We always sit down in the floor and rattle the bag when we give them treats so they relate bag rattling to getting treats. I had already given them raisins early but as soon as they heard Kent’s bag they were looking for more treats. It was funny, you could almost see Sophie trying to get him to help her find the treats. She even kind of kissed him aka tried to steal whatever he was eating only to find he didn’t have a treat either. Sawyer just stared at us for a few minutes until he realized we weren’t moving down to the floor so he wasn’t really going to get a treat. Poor Sophie kept looking for treats and only after Kent offered her a smell of a 3 Musketeers, which she was completely offended by, did she finally give up. These two are spoiled rotten!

Bunnies are such little angels…when they are sleeping!

This morning Sawyer thumped at me again. The last time was the other night when I threw a blanket on top of him and Sophie. Sophie loved it but apparently Sawyer wasn’t in the mood so he ran out from under it, stood next to the cage, looked and me and thumped. This morning he did it after I moved their cage to the other side of the living room. I have to have a door to hook one of my exercise contraptions on and the only place I can is a few feet from their cage. I hadn’t let them out yet this morning so I thought I would just move their cage for a little while and would let them out to play after I was done. Sawyer didn’t like it so after I had set everything up I looked over to the cage to see him staring at me and watched the little booger thump at me. I ended up pushing the cage into the kitchen so that I could get my routine done. Afterwards I put the cage back and let them out. Sawyer didn’t even give me a chance to put the carpet down on the ramp before he was out and flicking his heels at me like he wasn’t happy with me.

He’s calmed down and he and Sophie have spent most of the day in one of their favorite spaces, under their cage. It funny, Sophie has this thing where she will see that Sawyer is laying up against the wall under the cage and she will run over and somehow flop her way in between Sawyer and the wall. Sawyer doesn’t seem to mind though, he just lays there with her wedged between him and the wall. He is such a sweet bunny when he wants to be.

What ya doin?

I normally put Sawyer and Sophie up whenever I work out but this morning they seemed so cozy taking naps under the cage that I figured they probably wouldn’t be the least bit concerned with me. Wrong! As soon as I put the exercise mat on the floor they were immediately on it sniffing, it’s not one of those ones that smell to high heaven so it looked like they took a liking to it. I put the DVD in and turned around to find two bunnies sitting on the mat looking at me. I shooed them off and started my workout. Sawyer sniffed, nudged me a little bit, chewed on my hair for a second and then ran off to play in one of the boxes. Sophie on the other hand stayed with me most of the time. She sniffed and nudged me too but seemed more interested in the mat and my exercise bar than me. Bunnies are so funny, you think they are sleeping and oblivious to what is going on but as soon as you put something new in the floor they are suddenly all noses!

Baby Sawyer

Today I though I would share a few more baby pictures of Sawyer, well he was actually three months old at the time but he was still a baby to me.

As you can see in the last picture he didn’t start out with the freedom that Sophie did. The fencing was only about a foot tall so once he figured out how to get out a second time we let him have most of the living room as a play area. The first time was probably the worst for me because we had left him in the pen and left the room. When I came back he was no where to be seen and my biggest fear was that he was chewing on something he wasn’t suppose to because since we had been keeping him in the pen I had yet to bunny proof anything. Of course the last place you think he’d be is where you find him. I had bought a rolling drawer thing to keep all his toys and such in and some how he had squeezed himself behind the thing. The second time he got himself in an even more impossible space, he apparently wiggled behind the entertainment center and Kent found him on the bottom part starring at him through the glass door.

Luckily for the most part he’s a good boy and with Sophie around he‘s even more well behaved.
